Buying a pony!
If you are looking to buy a lead rein pony then this is a good place to start.
At Pretty Perfect Ponies we specialise in professionally trained lead rein ponies for sale. Our ponies are handled and ridden daily by small children and are trained specifically with small children in mind. They are thoroughly tried and tested during their training and will provide many years of fun to any pony mad child!
Buying a pony is a huge step but we are here to help!
Your child may have hundreds of reasons why you should buy them a pony, but the first thing to consider is whether or not to buy a pony at all! How do you know if your child is just going through a phase? When is the time is right to buy that first pony?
If your child is having riding lessons are they eager to get out the door and ready with hat and boots? Is your child enthusiastic throughout their lesson or does their attention wander? Do they get off the pony and walk away, or are they excited about helping to unsaddle the pony and put it in its field. If your child shows enthusiasm for all aspects of riding and pony care after a number of lessons it might be time for their own pony.
A child needs to be dedicated to have their own pony but will be rewarded with so much fun. When a child can ride and care for his or her own pony they soon become friends and the bond between them is heart warming for children and parents alike.
Once you are sure of your child's commitment you should also give some thought to:
- Cost - the initial outlay and upkeep. Once you have bought a pony it will need somewhere to live, a small amount of feed daily and it's feet trimmed regularly. You will also need to buy basic equipment eg rugs, saddle, bridle, buckets and grooming kit before starting out. You should also consider vaccinations, worming, vets fees and insurance. We can give you an indication of these costs and help you to know what is essential and what you can manage without.
- If you are not horsey parents, do you know someone experienced who can give you advice to ensure you and your child are confident in caring for a pony to get the most enjoyment out of owning one? We are always willing to help - but you may find it helpful to have a horsey friend too!
If you are not put off then it's time to have fun chosing a pony!
